3 Things You Should Know About Your Roofing Warranty

If you’re having a new roof installed this season, you’ll need to learn more about the warranty included with it. After all, roofing warranties add an extra layer of protection to your investment, helping ensure that your new roof will remain covered should issues arise. The premier residential roofing specialist in the area, Home Pro Exteriors, Inc. shares some of the facts you need to know:

1. Roof warranties are available in three types. While it seems like there are dozens of roof warranties available, they’re actually categorized into just three main types. There’s the standard manufacturer’s warranty, which offers coverage against defective roof materials and accessories, and the workmanship warranty from your contractor, which provides coverage for the actual roof installation. The third one is the extended manufacturer’s warranty, which has coverage on both roofing materials and workmanship. As a GAF Certified Master Elite® roofing company, Home Pro Exteriors, Inc. can provide you with access to GAF’s premium version of an extended manufacturer’s warranty: Golden Pledge®. This comes with a 50-year coverage on materials and 25-year coverage on installation. It’s also warranted to resist high wind speeds and algae growth and includes coverage for roof tear-off and disposal. What’s more, GAF Golden Pledge Warranty comes with a multi-point roof checkup from a GAF-certified inspector to determine whether the roof installation is compliant to the brand’s stringent quality specifications.

2. Roof warranties have to be registered. After you’ve chosen the new roofing system and its installer, you’ll need to check the requirements for registering its warranty. The roof warranty has to be registered so the new system is viable for coverage. If you’re working with a certified roofing contractor, they may handle this task on your behalf and register the warranty within the specified time frame.

3. Roof warranties can be nullified. Certain actions can void the coverage offered by the roof warranty, so make sure to always read the fine print. Most roofing manufacturers, for example, will refuse coverage if the roof installation or repair is not performed by one of their certified contractors. Installing satellite dishes, antennas, or HVAC systems on top of the roof may also void the warranty. That’s because putting this stuff involves drilling holes in the system, making it more susceptible to leaks. Having a roof layover done, overlooking attic ventilation, and power washing the roof should also be avoided if you want to keep the roof warranty intact.

I had Home Pro here at my home on 2 separate occasions. The first time to replace my large front window and more recently my large side window. Both times they did a wonderful job and Joe gave me a very fair price. I highly recommend Home Pro.

From responsiveness in communication to clean exit, Home Pro has proven themselves time and again. I’ve even had a couple of emergency situations that the crew has rapidly addressed in bad weather. With each job, I’ve found them reassuring, professional, fair, and clean–everything you expect from a home professional.
